GENIUS
An exhibit inspired by Elizabeth Gilbert’s TED Talk “Nurturing Creativity.”
Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see.
— Arthur Schopenhauer
Exhibit Summary
This exhibit is a memoriam to some of the most creative minds throughout history who have fallen in the lowest and most tragic ways—lost to the fiends of their solitude and creativity in the space where genius became demon, as it was all encompassing and self-absorbed rather than recognized as a collaboration between player and spirit. It is also a commemoration and call to the contemporary creative minds of our time, working across different fields and disciplines, fulfilling their parts, doing their dances and continuing to make work.
Featuring 20 decks painted and drawn by artist Mykim Dang, each portrait is a reincarnation of a great mind lost or a contemporary creative mind in the making as a reminder to us all that creativity is friend rather than foe.
March 5-12, 2010
Exhibition Hours, March 8th-12th: 3p.m. to 8p.m.
